Research has found that home births are steadily on the rise in the United States. Many women prefer giving birth at home to a hospital as it can provide a more relaxed and intimate environment. Some people say it also helps promote immediate bonding with the baby post-birth.

Many celebrities have opened up about their experiences delivering at home. Below, we take a look at some of the most interesting things celebrities have said after a home birth.

Gigi Hadid

Gigi Hadid welcomed her daughter Khai, whom she shares with former One Direction singer Zayn Malik, in a home birth on her family’s Pennsylvania farm. She later said her decision was inspired by the 2008 documentary The Business of Being Born As well as COVID-19 hospital restrictions.

Ashley Graham

The plus size model welcomed her first child, son Isaac, during a home birth in January 2020, PEOPLE notes. She later opened up about the experience on her podcast Pretty Big Deal where she said it gave her the confidence that “there’s nothing I can’t do.” She added that the home birth helped her bond with her son immediately.

Ashley went on to welcome twin sons this past January, also during an unmedicated home birth.

Cindy Crawford

Supermodel Cindy Crawford opted to deliver both of her children, son Presley and daughter Kaia, in a home birth with the help of a midwife. The fashion icon later admitted in an Instagram Live that she never considered a home birth before pregnancy, but forming a bond with her midwife made her comfortable with the idea.

Jade Robert

Bachelors in Paradise alum Jade Roper didn’t plan to give birth to her son Brooks at home in 2019. But after her contractions became too quick, she had no choice but to deliver in a closet. Jade later shared that she suffered PTSD following the chaotic delivery.

Hilary Duff

The Younger Actress opted to welcome her second child, daughter Banks, in a home birth in 2018. She later did the same for her third child, daughter Mae, for which her older two children were present for.

Weeks later, she discussed the subject to Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast, saying part of her decision was to show her son Luca was “strong women” and childbirth look like, Us Weekly reports.

Kailyn Lowry

Teen Mom 2 star Kailyn Lowry is a mom of four sons, but she opted to do things differently when welcoming her youngest, Creed, via home birth. The reality star has shared that COVID-19 restrictions largely motivated her decision to deliver at home.

Rachel Platten

The singer delivered her second child, daughter Sophie, in an unmedicated home birth in September 2021. The ‘Fight Song’ songstress opened up about the experience on Instagram, describing it as “2.5 [days of] grueling labor.” However, Rachel emphasized she didn’t regret her decision to have a home birth, adding she’s “never doubt” her strength again.


Kehlani

Kehlani became a first-time mom when she delivered her daughter Adela in her bathroom at home. As her Insider the singer described the experience as one of the “hardest yet most powerful” things she’s gone through. She also said that while home birth is “extremely hard,” it’s also “transformative.”

Elsa Hosk

Victoria’s Secret model Elsa Hosk delivered her daughter Tuulikki Joan in February 2021 via a water birth at home. In an essay posted to Instagram, Elsa said she always felt comforted by the water, so the decision felt natural. She added that home birth is an excellent way of “confronting yourself,” and bringing you closer to your infant.

Demi Moore

Demi Moore gave birth to her first daughter, Rumer, with Bruce Willis in a home birth, Pop Sugar reports. She had such a positive experience that she did the same when giving birth to their younger daughters, Scout and Tallulah.

Eva Amurri

Actress Eva Amurri gave birth to her third child, son Major, surrounded by her daughter as well as her estranged husband. She said the home birth was an empowering experience, filling her with “fire and fury.” She added that it gave her “hope” for the future of her family.

Lake Bell

How I Met Your Mother star Lake Bell had two scary home births with her son and daughter. During both deliveries, her babies were born with the umbilical cords wrapped around their necks. Luckily, despite the complications, her children were born successfully.

The actress has gone on to refer to home birth as an empowering experience that promotes “bonding.”

Lisa Bonet

Actress Lisa Bonet has three children – daughter Zoe Kravitz with rockstar Lenny Kravitz, and a son and a daughter with Jason Momoa. All three of her pregnancies ended in home birth. Momoa later told USA Today that his wife’s delivery with their daughter was so quick he almost missed he, though he arrived with a few hours to spare.


Julianne Moore

Actress Julianne Moore shares two children with her husband Bart Freundlich, both of whom she delivered in a home birth. She had such a positive experience that she’s joined Ricki Lake to advocate for a woman’s right to home birth.

Gisele Bundchen

Supermodel Gisele Bundchen was warned against delivering her son Benjamin via home birth as it may be dangerous, a topic she detailed in her memoir “Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life.” Despite the warning, she went ahead with the homebirth in 2009. She also gave birth to her daughter, Vivian, in her bathtub several years later.

Morgan Miller

The volleyball star delivered all six of her biological children at a home birth, including her and Bode Miller’s twin sons in 2019. Opening up about the experience to PEOPLE, the athlete says home birth is “the only thing I know.” She did a home birth once again to deliver her daughter in fall 2021.

Bekah Martinez

Bachelors alum Bekah Martinez had a hospital birth with her first child, daughter Ruth, which she called “exhausting and long.” In hopes of a different experience, she opted for a home birth with her son Franklin.

During an appearance on the Chatty Broads podcast, Bekah described her decision as “so right,” saying she has no regrets.

Iskra Lawrence

Model Iskra Lawrence had a scary experience when delivering her son via home birth in April 2020. After 24-hours of active labor, her son was born but had to be resuscitated by her midwife. In an Instagram post, Iskra referred to her son as “miracle” and said the experience made her more grateful.

Kimberly Van Der Beek

James and Kimberly Van Der Beek share six children, most of whom were delivered via home birth. The Dawson’s Creek alum opened up about his wife’s experiences on Instagram following the birth of their 5th child, daughter Gwendolyn, noting that home birth can get “messy” quickly.

Zara Tindall

Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter had an unexpected home birth when she delivered in her bathroom. Her husband, Mike Tindall, later revealed the experience was smooth despite unplanned, noting they were lucky their midwife was nearby.
